Meet our SB Team

Lara

  • Qualifications: Barre, Mat Pilates, Reformer, Boxing

My Pilates journey started in 2015 when I suffered a lower back injury and had to find a safe way to strengthen my core to alleviate pain. Before this, I was a competitive swimmer and triathlete who enjoyed running for fitness. In 2020, after another running injury, I started pole dancing for fitness (and fun!) and was then introduced to barre and lyra. I found Sky Barre shortly after this, signed on as a member, then completed my Barre, Mat Pilates, and Reformer certifications, I haven’t looked back!  Outside of Pilates I am a qualified teacher studying to become a counsellor.

You can expect Maki to teach you a little piece to begin with before working on bringing sequences together to connect them smoothly, making Maki’s classes great for every level. Maki is passionate about teaching hoop.

“To make your piece looking beautiful it doesn’t have to always be dynamic big tricks. I believe you look beautiful if you can smoothly connect simple tricks and controlled spins.

Anna

  • Qualifications: Mat Pilates, Reformer

When I am not travelling and working with Hector, the Road Safety Cat and saving precious lives, I spend my time participating or instructing Pilates. I am a passionate and professional Mat and Reformer instructor delivering to individual and group classes with a range of different abilities.  My classes are full of spinal mobility exercises, and I am skilled in delivering well balanced workouts with a flexible attitude to cater for everyone, as not all days are the same. I enjoy building relationships and good rapport with all clients.  Most importantly, I believe, Pilates is for everyone and besides the huge health and mental benefits, my aim is to put a smile on your face.

Why did you want to be a Pilates Instructor:  Becoming a Pilates Instructor seemed like a natural progression as Pilates has been part of my world for over 2 decades.  Most importantly, I love it and want to share this feeling with others as Pilates is for everyone and that includes all people with different shapes and sizes.

What do you love most about Pilates:I love the more holistic approach to strengthening and stabilising muscles as well as improving strength, resilience and flexibility in a person.  It also leaves your body feeling fabulous.

What is your workout style – how do you like to program/teach: I am empathetic and compassionate towards clients and recognise that everyone comes to Pilates with their own unique challenges and goals.  I always try to create a supportive and encouraging and fun environment where clients feel comfortable and motivated to work towards their own personal goals.  I would categorise myself as a little bit of everything from Classical, Contemporary to Progressive Reformer and always flexible and accommodating if I need to change my instructing during a session as many times even a class session is a work in progress.

What is your favourite exercise: This is a tricky question to answer, however, if I had to choose one it would be spinal rotations using poles.

What is your favourite music genre or go to playlist: Playlists are so important.  Every session, depending on the style, would have its own playlist which is intentional.  If you asked the clients in my class they would say that I am an 80’s girl but I do venture out to other genres like rock, art rock, grunge and pop noir.

Ellie

  • Qualifications: Mat Pilates, Reformer, Currently Completing Advanced Reformer Certification

Why did you want to be a Pilates Instructor: Movement is key to helping me feel my best and I love the opportunity to connect with others and bring that feeling to them as well.

What do you love most about Pilates: That you can take it as you need it! Either adding those layers to build the intensity for a great workout or keeping to the basics and slowing it all down for a low impact low intensity flow that leaves you feeling good.

What is your workout style – how do you like to program/teach: I love creating classes that flow from exercise to exercise to help keep your mind busy and your body moving for the whole class. I'm a big fan of including compound movements that help build full body strength and stability. When I teach I love to keep the mood light and the music vibey!

What is your favourite exercise: A spicy lunge series to get those glutes firing.

What is your favourite music genre or go to playlist: Anything with some beats and bass to help get you into the rhythm of the session.
